How to Change DNS Servers and Speed Up Downloads

Changing DNS servers on your router can significantly improve website access speed and connection security. Use DNS servers from Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) or Google (8.8.8.8).

How to Change DNS on Your Router:

DNS Setup Guide on Your Router

Accessing Router Settings:

  1. Connect to the router (via Wi-Fi or cable).
  2. Open a web browser and enter the router’s IP address in the address bar (usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1).
  3. Enter the login and password to access the settings (often admin/admin by default).

Finding the DNS Section:

  1. Locate the network settings section, LAN, or WAN, depending on your router’s interface.
  2. Find the “DNS” or “DNS Servers” field.

Setting DNS Servers:

  1. Enter 1.1.1.1 as the primary DNS server.
  2. Enter 8.8.8.8 as the secondary DNS server (if available).

Saving Settings:

  1. Click “Save” or “Apply” to make the changes effective.
  2. Restart the router (if required) to apply the changes.

Your router will now use the specified DNS servers for all connected devices.

How to install a .APKS file on Android

.APKS is an archive of “split APKs”: one app package broken into several modules. The stock system installer can’t handle .APKS, so you need a specialized split-APK installer (for example, Split APK Installer (SAI) or APKMirror Installer). Keep in mind: menu names and paths can differ on Samsung, Pixel, Xiaomi, and other firmware.

What you’ll need

  • .APKS file
  • A file manager or access to the “Downloads” folder
  • A split-APK installer (e.g., Split APK Installer (SAI) or APKMirror Installer)
  • Internet connection if required
  • Enough free internal storage

Steps

  1. Move the .APKS file to your phone: download it to “Downloads” or copy via cable/cloud. Remember the folder.
  2. Allow installing from unknown sources for the chosen installer: go to Settings → Apps → Special access → Install unknown apps and enable access for the installer app. The exact path may vary by device.
  3. Install and launch the split-APK installer. Don’t remove it until the installation is fully finished.
  4. In the installer, choose “Install from file,” select your .APKS, and grant storage/file permissions when asked so the app can read the archive.
  5. Review the module list (base + splits): the installer will unpack them like a nesting doll — layer by layer, in the correct order.
  6. If the installer offers to “re-sign” the package, read the note carefully: re-signing can break auto-updates and compatibility with versions from other sources. Use it only when necessary.
  7. Start the installation and wait until it completes. On success you’ll see a confirmation, and the app icon will appear in the app drawer/home screen.
  8. Open the app to make sure it works. Then return to settings and re-enable restrictions for unknown sources.

Pro tips

  • Download .APKS only from trusted sources. If Play Protect warns you, double-check the file and don’t disable protection permanently.
  • Check compatibility: Android version, CPU architecture (arm64-v8aarmeabi-v7ax86_64), and bitness must match your device.
  • Free up space first: unpacking modules may temporarily require more storage than the archive size.
  • Don’t delete the installer app until the process completes without errors.
  • Respect license agreements and don’t attempt to bypass protection.

If something went wrong

  • Problem: “App not installed.” Solution: ensure all required modules are selected, you have enough storage, and the installer is up to date; reboot your device and try again.
  • Problem: “Package parse error.” Solution: the file is corrupted or incomplete — download the .APKS again and verify the extension.
  • Problem: Signature conflict/already installed from another source. Solution: uninstall the current version (data may be removed) and install the package again from the same source, or use a build with a compatible signature.
  • Problem: Not enough storage. Solution: clear cache, delete large files, reboot, then repeat the installation.
  • Problem: Android version or ABI mismatch. Solution: verify the minimum OS version and CPU architecture; use a build that matches your device.
  • Problem: Blocked by Play Protect. Solution: install only if you trust the source; if you proceed, allow it temporarily and turn protection back on right after.
  • Problem: Installation hangs. Solution: reboot the device, clear the installer app’s cache/data, and try again.

That’s it. If you follow the steps carefully, installing a .APKS is straightforward and predictable. Remember: menu names on your phone may differ slightly — follow the context and on-screen prompts.

How to make a screenshot on android

There are situations when there is an urgent need to shoot what is happening on the screen. Such a snapshot is called a screenshot. And if on desktop operating systems to create a screenshot it is often enough to press 1 key, then with Android the situation is a bit blurry due to the huge number of different devices.

As you already guessed, there is no universal way to make a screenshot on android. In this short manual we will try to cover most of the options.

The first method, which is the most universal for Android 4.0 – 6.0:
simultaneously pressing the volume down and power on buttons

This combination will work on most smartphones and tablets Nexus, LG, HTC, Huawei, Lenovo, Xiaomi, Motorolla and many others.

On some custom firmware, the snapshot can be done by holding down the power button for a couple of seconds, after which it is enough to select a specially selected item in the pop-up window.

On Samsung smartphones and tablets, the combination looks like this:
physical button Home + power button

On most TouchWiz firmware screenshot is done like this:
Swipe with the edge of the palm from one edge of the device screen to the other

Owners of Android 3.2 can make a screen by holding down the Recent Programs button.

Pictures will be saved in the path Pictures / Screenshots on the memory card or on the internal drive (there are exceptions).

How to install a .Xapk file on Android

Download APK file and the cache archive on your smartphone / tablet. Then unpack the archive into a specific folder on your device:

  • Download and install one of these programs – ES Explorer, Root Explorer and Solid Explorer
  • Open the archive and copy the cache to one of these folders – /sdcard/Android/data/ and /sdcard/Android/obb/

If in the folder with the cache you see one or more files in the .obb format – the cache should be copied to the / sdcard / Android / obb / folder, otherwise – /sdcard/Android/data/.

After the folder with the cache is in the right place, you can proceed to the final stage – installation of the APK. (see installation of games and programs).

Installing games and programs on android

There are several options for installing games and programs on android:

Method 1

In this method, you will need a PC or laptop, on which one of these operating systems is installed – Windows, Linux or OS X (macOS). Download the APK file from the site FilesCEO in a convenient place for you, then connect the gadget to your computer with a USB cable. Make sure that the File Transfer (MTP) option is set in the system settings, as in the latest versions of Android, the item Charging via USB is enabled by default.

Next, you should check whether the item Install from unknown sources is activated in the system settings (Security category).

If all conditions are met, you can proceed to transfer the file from your PC to your smartphone or tablet. For comfortable work you will need a program-conductor. In Windows, this is Explorer:

In Linux this is often Nautilus

For OS X you need to install special. a program called Android File Transfer. After installing and running the utility, you will see a window that looks like a Finder window. Now when the device is connected AFT will start automatically.

After you have copied the desired file to your phone / tablet, you can disconnect the gadget from USB and start the installation process.

For further actions, you will need an explorer for Android, for example ES Explorer, Root Explorer or Solid Explorer. In Windows Explorer, locate the location where you copied the installation file. Tapping on the installer will open a window with information about the file being installed. If you are satisfied with the access settings, click the Install button.

At the end, information is displayed that the application has been successfully installed.

Method 2

This method is suitable for those who have access to unlimited / cheap wireless Internet, whether it’s Wi-Fi, 3G or LTE. With the help of any modern web browser (Chrome, Android Browser, Opera, Yandex Browser) you need to go to the site FilesCEO, download the liked APK files and install them as described in the first method.

When using the second method, the downloaded files are automatically placed in the /sdcard/Download.
